Occupying the Elcardo chairmen's office equipped with all the luxurious modern facilities, I am very humble to review my memories back to yester years since from early 1980s where I ventured my carrier as a technical craftsman in the industrial arena.
From my young age it was and still is my ambition and stern vision that whatever invention I am to be involved in the industrial arena, it should give major priority for local manufactures. Thereby I became the pioneer industrialist who fabricate crash bars for automobile jeeps and subsequently, comprehensive exhaust line and its accessories to all type of automobile vehicles. Elcardo became the first ever company in Asia to manufacture the exhaust line and muffler barrels with using of stainless steel in order to provide a long life to the exhaust line.
From there onwards I have come a long way with overcoming difficulties and competitive tasks to achieve the present status where the Elcardo name is mentioned in a cynosure place in the roller door industry, successively holding the major share as the market leader in the industry.
The historical mile stone of the company shows both success and failures through which all my staff members both past and present have steadfastly held my hand and guided me along to make our ventures successful. Also not forgetting the valuable customers who gather around us with appreciation in regards to the quality and the high standard of our products and services, gave us more courage and confidence to move into new ventures from time to time.
So I make this opportunity to extend my sincere and humble gratitude for both my colleagues and clients for making Elcardo shine in the industry and now on I look forward for further new innovations to make our products more valuable to our existing and potential customers.
Crown of the strength
It is indeed a long journey that has come along over 3 decades to achieve the present status of Elcardo. So this is just a brief review on Elcardo inventions from its inceptions.
It was in early 1980's an energetic youngster named Athula Rohan Weerarathne, the present Chairman of Elcardo group, with his moderate thinking took the first step to research how he could introduce, locally manufactured items and his first innovation to the local market was the first ever locally made 'crash bar' for auto mobile jeeps. Subsequently he moved on to producing Auto mobile exhaust line accessories and he was the pioneer to manufacture exhaust line accessories using stainless steel.
In 1985, Elcardo legally registered as a business industry and thereafter in no time the Elcardo name became very popular among the auto mobile users throughout the island. Elcardo launched a new product line in early 1990 by bringing down Exclusive Automobile Accessories (specifically made for 4 wheel driven luxury vehicles) from abroad resulting in Elcardo becoming the leading supplier of Automobile accessories at present day.
Elcardo with its utmost dedication also succeeded in fabricating all types of Stainless Steel railings, display racks; many other structures for Building Constructions, Kitchen pantry cupboards and more Stainless Steel solutions required by star hotels, hospitals and private sector clients.
Elcardo entered to the Roller Shutter business in a manner of importing the entire range of state of art machineries that are used to manufacture Roller Shutters, Pulleys, springs and other accessories. Elcardo became the leading manufacturer and stockist for the entire range of roller shutter accessories by which, the small and medium scale industrialist engaged in the shutter field got a valuable opportunity in obtaining their requirements at a low and competitive price enabling them to sustain in the industry.
In 1997, Elcardo Industries Pvt Ltd was incorporated under the 'Companies Act No 17 of 1982' and simultaneously Elcardo found that hardly anyone manufactures roller doors locally in accordance with international standards. Therefore Mr Weerarathne made the precious decision to import the entire range of state of art machineries from Australia and Japan, which resulted in Elcardo becoming the pioneer company to fabricate roller doors with using Australian technology. Today thousands of houses, car sheds, commercial premises and lot more places are adorned with high quality powder coated zinc alum roller doors, carrying the Elcardo name. Since these doors are manufactured with Australian technology, the doors are confirmed to be of international standards.
Elcardo Industries Pvt Ltd is the very first company among the roller door industry that is to be accredited with ISO 9001-2000 & ISO 9001-2008 SGS certificate in honor of quality effective services that is rendered to the customer.
Certificates are not required to prove the Elcardo's craftsmanship and the quality of the roller doors, as the official residence at Colombo, tangalle and also the secretariat of H.R. the president of D.S.R of Sri Lanka are secured with Elcardo Roller Doors.
Time to time, Elcardo management has innovated to manufacture various items that are highly demanded to the construction solutions such as Zinc Alum Color bonded and non color roofing sheets, gutters, down pipes and C purling with cold rolled foamed and hot dipped zinc coated high strength steel strip and low carbon black steel strip which could be used for pre fabricated buildings in any size which are in accordance with customer requirements.
Among the new ventures, manufacturing of Neu stone surface top ups which could be used in place of granite has become very much popular among the customers as the cost and service are much competitive comparing to granite along with its perks of easy maintenance and longevity. Neu stone tops could be used for pantry tops, bar tops, wash room wall coverings, floor tops and any surface tops that granite are to be used.
The latest introduction by elcardo is a product named W.P.C which is used instead of natural wood. W.P.C stands for Wood Plastic Composite and it is a recycled product with the use of wood, saw dust, hay dust and chemicals where the result is an artificial wood panel that could be used for wooden hand railings, roofing, flooring, skirting and fencing along with many more. The special advantages of W.P.C product are heat and water resistant and it also resists from insect encroachment.
With all these investments Elcardo has engaged in a silent contribution to the nation development by saving foreign exchange and providing direct and indirect job opportunities to the youngsters and also being capable of providing their prestigious customers with high quality standard products at very competitive prices.
Elcardo is represented as sole agents in Sri Lanka for many world renowned companies such as Sumitomo Japan, Uncle Unitycoon Taiwan, Sysco Taiwan, Winbo Taiwan and Many more.
In recongnition of the Elcardo superb quality and methodical craftsmanship and its respectful service, it has been honored with various awards and certificates during its carrier and some of those valuable junctures are awarded with the stated titles below with its respectful years.
Our Achievements
With fabricating the first ever locally manufactured crash bar for automobile jeeps, we entered to the industrial business arena in early 1980s with a very small workshop in Ratmalana. Gradually in due time we have expanded our products range by introducing different items that are required in construction field and eventually have succeeded in building up our own factories that are equipped with the state of art machineries and show rooms in Capital cities Island wide by which we are able to give a better service to our valuable customers who are spread throughout the Island. Our factories are located in Ratmalana, Kandy, Kurunagala, Matara and Jaffna whilst there are show rooms spread out in Nawala with head office, Nugegoda, Ratmalana, Kandy, Kurunagala, Matara, Negambo and Jaffna. Further we have succeeded in expanding our products to the international market with our agent in Maldives and our showrooms in Chennai and Coimbatore, India.
During our carrier of industrial business we were the first ever Roller Door Company to be awarded with ISO 9000-2008, ISO 9000-2009, ISO 9000-2010, ISO 9000-2011, ISO 9000-2012 respectively nationally and internationally in recognition of the quality and the services that we have rendered to our valuable customers. Elcardo will prove their efficiency and capability in serving our nation with much more new innovations in years to come.
